GENERAL INFORMATION

The SBO 2F has 2 molds and 3 heating modules. It can produce up to 2400 bottles per hour
in a wide range of bottle sizes and styles from 0.25 to 3 liters.

Sidel 2-step ^PET stretch-blow molders require previously manufactured preforms be 
supplied to the machine. Separating the bottle manufacturing and preform manufacturing 
processes allow production to be optimized, provide greater flexibility of operation and 
use, and provide higher production output rates and yield.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION OF SIDEL SBO 2F STRETCH BLOW MOLDERS

PREFORM FEEDER
The preforms are tipped in bulk into a 390 liter hopper. An elevator lifts the preforms
onto the top of the infeed rails. They are held under the support ring by the two rails
and are then lowered by gravity to the SBO 2F infeed.

PREFORM HEAT CONDITIONING
Oven spindles load into the necks of the preforms on an infeed starwheel. When loaded,
the spindle rotates to present the preform in the neck down position. The rotating
preforms continuously pass in front of the 3 oven modules, each of which is equipped with 
ten 2KW infra-red lamps and one lamp opposite each oven. The first oven module is 
equipped with ten 1100 watt lamps on one side and one lamp on the other side. Each power 
level is set independently from the others by means of a thyristor unit. Oven lamps are 
vented separately from the air cooling through which the preforms pass, to obtain optimum 
heat penetration of the preform wall. At the oven outfeed, an infra-red camera reads of 
preform temperatures and compares them with a set-point in order to control all the 
heating zones.

PREFORM TRANSFER
At the outfeed of the heat conditioning unit, the preforms are transferred onto the two 
fixed blowing positions by means of two cam-actuated swing arms fitted with a clip 
gripper.

BOTTLE STRETCH-BLOW
The blowing station is fitted with 2-pin lock molds with cam-actuated opening and closing 
systems. Two circuits can regulate mold temperatures if required. Each mold is placed in 
an encircling mold holding unit with integral mechanical locking. This configuration 
enables quick mold changing. The blowing nozzle is inserted into the preform neck, and 
guides the stretching rod, which controls axial stretching. The blowing process which 
controls the longitudinal stretching operation takes place in two stages - medium 
pressure pre-blowing, and high pressure blowing, which insures optimized distribution of 
the material thickness in the bottle wall. The blow nozzle design guarantees a perfect 
seal no matter what the blow pressure. The blowing pressure regulation is built into the 
machine.

BOTTLE DISCHARGE
After mold unlocking, two arms transfer the bottles to the outfeed.

The main functions of startup and operation are combined on the machine integrated 
control panel. The role of the operator mainly consists of checking preform loading and
 output bottle quality.

BOTTLE WEIGHT REDUCTION
Optimization of material distribution based on precision of heat conditioning and stretch
 motions.

STAFF SAFETY
Machine startup can only proceed with the doors closed - opening them during machine
operation triggers an immediate shutdown of the machine. Noise levels are less than 85dB.

MACHINE SAFETY
Various safety systems avoid mechanical damage to the machine. Preventative safety 
systems, such as the ejection of sub-standard preforms before heat conditioning, ejection 
of unblown preforms and substandard blown preforms, etc. High speed shutdown of machine 
due to prevent abnormal stress levels etc.
